International Study Scholarships for Students from Central and Eastern Europe to study in Austria and Germany

Scholarship Program of the Foundation "DER ROTARIER"
The program is dedicated to promote international views, tolerance in all aspects, intercultural encounters and the concept of international understanding. To that end, study scholarships are awarded to especially qualified students from Central and Eastern Europe. Also necessary periods of practical training for a study program can be financed. Both will take place in either Austria or Germany.
The program has an endowment of 120,000 Euros and is directed towards

The Foundation "DER ROTARIER" especially welcomes applications submitted by Rotary Clubs and districts in Germany and Austria. All Rotary Clubs, Rotary Districts, and Inter-Country Committees from countries of Central and Eastern Europe as well as Austria and Germany are cordially invited to promote applications to this program.
Scholarships and supplemental grants can become effective with the winter semester 2009/2010. Interested parties from the following countries may apply: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Czech Republic,Croatia, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia-FYROM, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine.
This action serves to promote international understanding and is in accordance with the charter of the Foundation "DER ROTARIER." The program is offered because the one that was conducted initially in 2005 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Rotary International, and repeated since that time has proven to be very worthwhile.
General Requirements - Payments - Application - Procedures
1. General Requirements
The resources provided by the program should essentially support the scholarship holder's cost of living during a limited period of study and make possible international encounters and experiences in Austria and Germany.
The study scholarships will be granted to qualified students during the period of time after the qualifying examination or an appropriate intermediate examination and end-of-study program examination, and in special cases also to post graduate students.
Awarding of grants presupposes that the applicant
-
has already shown him/herself to be above average in an accredited program of study,
-
will continue by means of this scholarship to study in Germany or Austria at an accredited university, college, or other educational institution (or an accredited practical training that is part of a required course of study),
-
has a solid command of the German language and
-
has made a special commitment to intercultural encounters in Germany andAustria within the framework of his/her study and to Rotary.

has been approved by a Rotary Club of his/her country.
Compliance with these requirements must be documented in the application papers. False statements or non-compliance with these obligations during the award period will result in cancellation and repayment of the grant.
Awards are granted to individual persons. They do not apply to institutions that arrange scholarship granting. Award decision is solely at the discretion of the Foundation "DER ROTARIER" and is exempt from legal procedures.
2. Program Payments
Payments in the following categories are announced:

Study scholarships (up to 5,000 Euros/Semester), up to two semesters.

Supplemental grants for practical training that are required for a course of study (up to 8 weeks in Austria or Germany, 500 Euros per month)
Associated insurance payments and travel cost in Austria/Germany are included in theabove mentioned amount

In addition to detailed and accurate personal-, study related- and other information, applications should contain a concrete description of the intended objectives of the study program and the desired location of the university/college or site of the practical training. Additional information may be requested from the applicant and if needed an interview scheduled. For details see Enclosure.
The Foundation "DER ROTARIER" will notify selected applicants by June 15th 2009 at the latest.
Scholarship holders will be in the care of the Rotary Districts of the selected place of study.
Scholarship /grant payments will be made via "Rotary Deutschland Gemeindienst e.V., D.sseldorf." In this regard, scholarship holders must designate a bank account in Germany or Austria.

Enclosure: Requirements for scholarship application
1. Narrative application in German, including current address, phone number, email, and one photo.
2. Vitae in German, including listing of visits to foreign countries to date, and academic transcripts.
3. Statement of reasons for applying (in German).
4. Letter of recommendation from professors or teachers from the current academic institution, if necessary with German translation.
5. Certificate of German language proficiency (if necessary with German translation).
6. Original confirmation of registration certificate from the university/college/educational institution currently attended.
7. Indication of the preferred Austrian or German university/college/educational institution.
8. Recommendation of a Rotary Club in applicant's native country.
